About the District:
This centrally located district includes the geographic center of the Commonwealth, the Town of Rutland, marked by the town’s “central tree” and located 52 miles west of Boston. Although his district is a world away from Beacon Hill, Senator Brewer has
never forgotten that his main responsibility is to serve and assist the people he represents in central and western Massachusetts. Senator Brewer is proud to represent a district full of character and rich history. Visitors to the district can watch the history of rural New England come to life at Old Sturbridge Village, a living history museum full of collections, exhibits, and programs that tell the story of everyday life in a small New England town during the years 1790 to 1840.
After a step back in time at Old Sturbridge Village, visit the “Baby Town of the Commonwealth” a name given to East Brookfield, the youngest town in the Commonwealth. Although young, East Brookfield has no shortage of character. Their most noted citizen, Connie Mack (Cornelius McGillicuddy), “The Grand Old Man of Baseball”, transformed major league baseball as the longest-serving manager in Major League Baseball history, holding the records for wins, losses, and games managed. The neighboring town of West Brookfield boasts the birth place of prominent American suffragist, Lucy Stone, also the first woman in Massachusetts to receive a college degree.
Once you have educated yourself on the history of the area, do not hesitate to
take in the natural beauty of the Quabbin Reservoir, one of the largest man-made public water supplies in the United States. When full, the Quabbin holds 412 billion gallons of water that supplies drinking water to Chicopee Valley, MetroWest and Metro Boston communnities.
Just north of the Quabbin in the town of Ashburnham lies Cushing Academy where two-time Academy Award-winning American actress of film, television and theatre, Bette Davis, was educated. These are just a few of the traits that make this district so special to Senator Brewer and important to the history of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Each and every day, Senator Brewer makes a concerted effort to reach out and be there for the people of this very large district.
