BREWER AND DONELAN ANNOUNCE GRANT FOR ORANGE AIRPORT

Boston - Senator Stephen M. Brewer (D-Barre) and Representative Christopher J. Donelan (D-Orange) announced today that the Massachusetts Aeronautics Commission (MAC) has awarded a grant to the Orange Municipal Airport. This funding will be devoted to the improvements and relocation of Runway 14-32, including the installation of lights and markings. The entire cost of the grant will total $918,000 with $858,800 being provided by the federal government, $33,800 by the state, and $25,400 from a local share.

“I am thrilled to see that the Massachusetts Aeronautics Commission is continuing to support this project,” said Senator Brewer. “This funding will ensure that the Orange Municipal Airport continues to run efficiently and serve the residents of the North Quabbin area.”

Representative Donelan added; “This is a substantial and ongoing investment in The Orange Airport by state and federal government. Clearly Orange plays a major role in the aviation strategy for this region and that is good news for the town and the airport.”

MAC's mission is to promote aviation while establishing and maintaining a safe, efficient airport system to meet the current and future air transportation and economic needs of the Commonwealth. MAC has jurisdiction over the Commonwealth's 37 public use airports of which 24 are publicly owned and 13 privately owned, 2 seaplane bases, and 184 private use landing areas. It is responsible for airport development and improvements, aviation safety, aircraft accident investigation, navigational aids, and statewide aviation planning. MAC certifies airports and heliports, licenses airport managers, conducts annual airport inspections, and enforces safety and security regulations.
