FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BREWER AND GOBI ANNOUNCE AGRICULTURAL ENHANCEMENT ENERGY PROGRAM GRANT FOR STEVENS FARM

Boston- Senator Stephen M. Brewer (D-Barre) and Representative Anne M. Gobi (D-Spencer) announced today that the Stevens Farm in Barre will receive a $25,000 grant. The funding will be used to install a state of the art wind turbine on the farm.

The grant will come from an Agricultural Enhancement Energy Program (AEEP) Grant, which is administered by the Department of Agriculture (DAR).  The AEEP provides funding to agricultural operations in Massachusetts for the mitigation and/or prevention of impacts on natural resources that may result from agricultural practices. While primarily a water quality program, AEEP also funds practices that promote energy efficiency, conserve water and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The wind turbine will be used as an alternative energy source for farm operations.

I am thrilled to hear that the Stevens Farm was included in the Agricultural Enhancement Energy Program,” said Senator Brewer. “I commend the farm’s proactive efforts to seek out alternative energy sources and thereby decrease its dependence on fossil fuels.”

“I congratulate the Stevens Farm on receiving this grant,” stated Representative Gobi.  “Renewable energy resources are a way to help conserve our natural resources and I applaud their efforts in using renewable energies.”
