Legislation Passed for Sturbridge Betterment Assessment

BostonSenator Stephen M. Brewer (D-Barre) and Representative Todd M. Smola (R-Palmer) announced today that they worked with their colleagues in the legislature to successfully pass Senate Bill 2043, “An Act Relative to a Betterment Assessment in the Town of Sturbridge.”

Senator Brewer and Representative Smola filed this bill at the request of the Town.  Parcels 101 and 104 on Cricket Drive were combined into one parcel to create a sufficient amount of land to construct a single family home.  At the time of the sewer project, the land was owned by a developer but has since been purchased and built upon by a private citizen; however, it has two betterment assessments.  This bill allows the town to abate the sewer betterment assessment on parcel 104.

“I am happy to have filed this bill on the Town’s behalf and enjoy their enthusiasm for this project,” said Senator Brewer.  “I look forward to continuing to work with the Town on future local projects.”

“We are happy to have supported this legislation on behalf of the town,” said Smola. “The community has worked hard in moving this project forward and I applaud their continued dedication”
