$100,000 Technology Competitive Grant Program for North Brookfield Public Schools Announced
BREWER, AND GOBI ANNOUNCE TECHNOLOGY COMPETITIVE GRANT FOR LOCAL PUBLIC SCHOOLS
Boston, MA – Senator Stephen M. Brewer (D-Barre) and Rep. Gobi (D-Spencer) announced today that the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education awarded an American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) Technology Competitive Grant Program totaling $100,000 to North Brookfield Public Schools.
The funds will be used to put Smart Boards in each secondary English/Language Arts and Math classroom, as well as one in the Special Education classroom. At the elementary school, monies will be used to install these interactive smart boards for use in classrooms (grades 3-6) as well as in Special Education classrooms. All of the technology-infused lessons will work as part of the school’s Tiered Instructional model, which allows teachers to teach the core instructional program as well as to provide supplemental instruction to students who need smaller group or one on one assistance.
“I am delighted the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education through the funds from the federal government is not only supporting education in our local community, but it is supporting the future of our youth with this investment in technology,” Senator Brewer remarked. “I have worked with Commissioner Chester to ensure my district continues to get the support it deserves during these difficult economic times and this funding will help keep our next generation of students competitive in the work force.”
"I commend the North Brookfield School District in submitting a solid application in order to receive these very competitive funds," stated Representative Gobi. "I know that the students will benefit from this grant."
The purpose of this two-year federal grant program is to improve student achievement through the effective use of technology in elementary and secondary schools. Due to the historic opportunity, funding in this program will be invested in projects that will ensure sustainable and continuing commitments after the funding expires.
