BREWER AND SMOLA ANNOUNCE A MASSACHUSETTS DOWNTOWN INITIATIVE GRANT FOR WARREN
Boston, MA – Senator Stephen M. Brewer (D-Barre) announced today that the Department of Housing and Community Development awarded an Massachusetts Downtown Initiative Technical Assistance (MDI) Site Visit Program grant totaling $10,000 to the Town of Warren.
This award provides consultant services to assist the Town of Warren with an economic development reuse study for the old town hall. The old town hall currently is used to house the police station and this study will investigate for additional uses of the building.
“This grant comes at a time when the Town of Warren is working very hard to revitalize the downtown area, as seen by the new streetscapes, and this grant will help the Town of Warren continue its momentum,” Senator Brewer remarked.
“This is a great opportunity,” said Smola. “The Town of Warren has worked hard and made some significant improvements to the downtown area. This funding will go a long way in helping the town explore their options for the old town hall.”
The Department of Housing and Community Development Massachusetts Downtown Initiative (MDI) offers a range of services and assistance to communities seeking help on how to revitalize their downtowns. The primary mission of the MDI is to make downtown revitalization an integral part of community development in cities and towns across the Commonwealth. MDI’s guiding principles are that the most effective approach to downtown revitalization is a holistic one; that it addresses economic and community development needs; and that it provides a framework of interrelated activities that promote positive change in a downtown to keep it healthy and prosperous.
