BREWER AND ALICEA ANNOUNCE WATER CONSERVATION GRANT FOR CHARLTON HOUSING AUTHORITY
Boston, MA – Senator Stephen M. Brewer (D-Barre) and Representative Alicea (D-Charlton) announced today that the Department of Housing and Community Development awarded a Water Conservation Sustainability grant totaling $16,127 to the Charlton Housing Authority.
This grant will fund the procurement and installation of 31 toilets and shower heads as part of DHCD’s Low Flow Toilet project. The program’s goal is to enhance local drinking water and conservation efforts in communities across the Commonwealth. The grant will assist with the cost of toilet installation and DHCD will also provide guidelines for recycling of the used toilets.
“I am delighted the Department of Housing and Community Development is working together with the Charlton Housing Authority to make our community more sustainable through the preservation of our natural resources,” remarked Senator Brewer.
“I am glad that DHCD was able to recognize this opportunity to promote water conservation efforts within our community” said Representative Alicea. “It’s great to see this funding being awarded to the Charlton Housing Authority for such a valuable purpose”.
The Water Conservation Grant Program awards funds to municipalities and public water systems to encourage and enhance local drinking water conservation efforts. Federal and/or state funds provide monies for this grant program in support of the Massachusetts Water Resources Commission and the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection’s watershed management policies and water conservation initiatives, as well as the Massachusetts Water Policy developed through the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs.
